New World: Optimizing Your DPS Build for the Gorgon Raid

Dec 17, 2024, 10:28:38 PST | Categories : New World |

In New World, the Gorgon raid presents a unique and challenging experience that requires highly coordinated team play. Whether you're looking to build your character for DPS, tank, or healing, understanding your role and how to optimize your gear, skills and New World Coins is crucial to success. In this guide, I'll cover the DPS build I personally use for the Gorgon raid, as well as some alternative builds for tank and healer roles. We'll also touch on boss mechanics and the importance of diversifying your team's builds to maximize effectiveness during the raid.

DPS Build for Gorgon Raid

When assembling your DPS build for the Gorgon raid, it's essential to focus on a mix of damage output and utility. One key element to this is the Void Gauntlet. I’ve chosen this weapon due to the Essence Rupture ability, which provides a 20% life steal to all allies hitting the boss. This ability is crucial because it allows for more DPS and the possibility of completing the raid with just one healer, freeing up more damage slots on the boss.

Void Gauntlet Abilities

· Essence Rupture: The cornerstone of the build, this ability grants life steal to all damage dealers. Ideally, you'll have two players using Essence Rupture, and pairing it with the Refreshing Rupture weapon perk maximizes uptime.

· Oblivion: This ability provides an Empower to all allies within its area of effect, improving everyone's damage output.

· Tether: Provides both Empower and Weaken debuffs, helping reduce the boss's damage output while amplifying your team's effectiveness.

Main Hand Weapon: Freya’s Hatchet

For the main weapon, I use the Freya's Hatchet from the Mutated Genesis dungeon. The hatchet is excellent for spamming abilities, allowing you to maximize your DPS output. Utilizing Throwing Hatchet abilities, combined with regular throws, helps increase your damage significantly. Here's the mastery tree I use for the hatchet:

· Throwing Hatchet Mastery Tree: Focusing on high damage potential with skills that can be spammed, this tree enables a relentless offensive on the boss.

Armor Setup

Armor choice is critical for all DPS builds. You'll want to be in a light equipment load to maximize your damage output. Being in medium or heavy armor will hinder your performance, as it decreases your overall damage potential. Ensure that you're not letting your team down by weighing yourself down with heavier gear.

The most important perk to have on your armor is Enchanted Ward, which provides extra protection against elemental damage. Additionally, you'll want to prioritize Slash Conditioning and Strike Conditioning based on the types of damage dealt by the bosses in the Gorgon raid.

For the first boss, the Gorgon, which deals strike damage, you'll want to focus on Strike Conditioning and Slash Conditioning for the second boss, which uses slash damage. Having Slash Protection is particularly useful for this boss, as this is where many players struggle during the raid.

Here’s a breakdown of my gear:

· Enchanted Ward: Provides damage reduction from elemental sources.

· Slash Conditioning: Helps mitigate damage from slash attacks, useful for the second boss.

· Refreshing: Reduces cooldowns, allowing you to spam abilities more frequently.

For the amulet, I use a Slash Protection Amulet (Soul Shroud), which I acquired from Merard. This provides extra slash resistance for the second boss. If you prefer a more defensive setup, you can swap the Opal Gem for an Onyx Gem, improving your damage resistance.

Attribute Distribution

My attribute allocation is designed to provide a balance between survivability and DPS. Here's my current setup:

· 350 Strength: Maximizes damage with my main weapon, the throwing hatchet.

· 150 Dexterity (after food buffs): Enhances damage output and increases critical hit chances.

· 25 Focus: For the minor healing and utility, helping with mana regeneration and some light healing.

· 100 Constitution: This ensures I can survive long enough to keep applying consistent damage. If you're more experienced with the raid, you can reduce this to 50 Constitution and pump more points into Dexterity for additional damage.

Alternatives for DPS Builds

While the Void Gauntlet and Hatchet combo is solid, there are several other viable DPS setups for the Gorgon raid. Here are a few alternatives:

· Greatsword + Hatchet: This combination gives you strong AoE damage and mobility with the Greatsword, while the Hatchet can focus on single-target damage. Greatsword's Whirling Blade applies Weaken, allowing for better synergy with other damage dealers.

· Spear + Life Staff: While more focused on support, this build can be viable if you aim to apply Bleed effects to the boss. Running Sundering Javelin and Leeching Cyclone can help sustain your health while dealing consistent damage.

· Fire Staff + Void Gauntlet: A potent ranged combination, where the Fire Staff can deal substantial burst damage, especially with abilities like Flame Thrower and Fireball. This can work well in DPS-heavy groups where the Void Gauntlet applies debuffs and utility.

Tank Build for Gorgon Raid

Tanks in the Gorgon raid need to be resilient while maintaining control over the boss. A solid choice is the Sword & Shield + Hatchet or Sword & Shield + Flail combo. Using the Carnelian Gems for additional resistances will help mitigate damage.

· Sword & Shield Mastery Tree: Provides defensive abilities like Shield Rush and Defender’s Stance.

· Hatchet Mastery Tree: Focuses on applying damage while maintaining survivability with Berserk for increased damage output.

For the tank's gear, you'll want to use Tower Shields and prioritize Strike Conditioning and Slash Conditioning.

Healer Build for Gorgon Raid

For healers, the Life Staff + Void Gauntlet combo is highly recommended for its strong support abilities and utility. The Sacred Ground and Divine Embrace skills are essential for healing your teammates effectively during the raid. For additional debuffing power, Void Gauntlet's Oblivion can be paired for Empower and Weaken effects.

The Fortifying Sacred Ground perk is also crucial to increasing your team’s survivability.

Raid Boss Mechanics Overview

To succeed in the Gorgon raid, you’ll need to understand the mechanics of each boss. Here’s a quick breakdown:

· First Boss (Strike Damage): The first boss deals primarily strike damage. To counter this, focus on Strike Conditioning and use your Strike Protection gear.

· Second Boss (Slash Damage): This boss hits with slash damage, so equip Slash Conditioning and Slash Protection to mitigate the damage. This is the boss most players struggle with, so focus on defensive builds here.

· Third Boss (Nature Damage): The third boss uses nature damage, so make sure you have the appropriate Nature Protection gear.

Conclusion

Maximizing your DPS potential in the Gorgon raid requires a strategic approach to gear, abilities, and attributes. The Void Gauntlet combined with the Hatchet is an excellent starting point, but there are plenty of alternative builds that can work depending on your playstyle and role in the raid. Be sure to communicate with your team and coordinate debuffs to ensure your group succeeds in taking down these formidable bosses. Happy raiding!
