ARC Raiders: Fastest Way to Level Up Scrappy From Start to Finish
With the recent ARC Raiders reset, now is the perfect time to revisit companion progression, specifically leveling Scrappy as efficiently as possible. Scrappy provides meaningful utility once fully upgraded, but the item requirements can feel overwhelming if you do not follow an optimized route. This guide breaks down every Scrappy level and explains the fastest, most reliable locations to gather each required ARC Raiders items with minimal wasted runs.
Level 1: Dog Collar
Your first task is simple: acquire a Dog Collar. While this item can technically spawn anywhere in residential loot containers, the most consistent location is Dam Battlegrounds, specifically Ruby Residence or Pale Apartments. These areas are dense with drawers, cupboards, couches, and cabinets, all of which can spawn a Dog Collar.
Dog Collars often appear in plain sight-on furniture, or inside containers. If you find one, immediately place it in your safe pocket to guarantee extraction even if you die. While you should not tunnel vision these locations exclusively, spawning near Ruby Residence almost guarantees success. Once extracted, return to Scrappy and complete the first training level.
Level 2: Lemons and Apricots
Next, Scrappy requires three lemons and three apricots. The best location for both is Blue Gate - Olive Grove, a dedicated nature zone. Unlike Dog Collars, these items do not spawn randomly across maps, so traveling here is essential.
Apricots come from apricot trees. Interact with or kick them to drop fruit, often with extras on the ground nearby. Lemons work similarly but may already be harvested by other players, so thoroughly check around tree bases. While farming, also collect olives if you see them, as they will be needed later.
A single sweep of Olive Grove can easily yield surplus fruit, allowing you to store extras for later levels. Once you have the required lemons and apricots, extract and upgrade Scrappy again.
Level 3: Olives, Cat Bed, and Prickly Pears
This stage is more involved. You need six olives, one cat bed, and six prickly pears.
You can finish olives by returning to Blue Gate - Olive Grove, focusing on thicker, larger trees. These frequently drop olives and are easy to farm during a quick run.
For the cat bed, there is a near-guaranteed spawn location in Buried City - Old Town (Red Tower). Enter the courtyard near the metro entrance, climb into the tower via the window, and check the drawers upstairs. These containers consistently spawn cat beds and pillows. This is also an extraction-adjacent area, making it extremely efficient.
Prickly pears are best farmed on Dam Battlegrounds. Head north along the dirt road near Raider hatches and outposts. You are looking for cactus clusters-prickly pears often spawn directly on the ground nearby. While RNG can vary, this route has the highest cactus density in the game, and two runs are usually enough to secure all six.
Level 4: Final Requirements
The final Scrappy upgrade requires 12 apricots, 12 mushrooms, and three very comfortable pillows.
Apricots are again farmed at Olive Grove, so return to Blue Gate if you sold extras earlier. Pillows can be looted from many residential containers, but the Red Tower cat bed location remains the fastest guaranteed method.
Mushrooms are the trickiest item, but there is a reliable spawn on Spaceport, just north of Rocket Assembly near the eastern trench hatch. A tree located down a ramp consistently provides harvestable mushrooms. Under normal conditions, you will receive three per run, but special events such as Cold Snap can dramatically increase yield. Always keep safe-pocket mushrooms and extract immediately, as the area is frequently contested.
Final Upgrade and Rewards
Once you turn in the final items, Scrappy reaches maximum level, unlocking Master Hoarder and its full reward set. At this point, no further trading is required, and Scrappy becomes a permanent, fully upgraded asset.
By following these routes and prioritizing guaranteed spawns, you can fully level Scrappy with minimal downtime and far fewer failed runs. This method remains the fastest and most consistent approach currently available in ARC Raiders.
