How to Defeat the Comet and Firefly in ARC Raiders
In ARC Raiders, the introduction of the Comet and the Firefly adds two high-threat ARC variants that demand disciplined positioning, environmental awareness, and precise execution. This guide breaks down where to find them, how to neutralize them efficiently, and how to secure their unique ARC Raiders items drops—most importantly the Comet Igniter and the Firefly Burner.
Locating the Comet (Ground ARC)
The Comet is most consistently encountered during the Hurricane condition. Queue into any map with active Hurricane weather to increase spawn probability. While Comets can appear in standard conditions, the Hurricane modifier significantly improves reliability.
Environmental effects during Hurricane:
· Severely reduced visibility.
· Continuous ticking armor degradation while exposed outdoors.
Because of the armor decay mechanic, unequip armor when traversing open zones during Hurricane. Re-equip only when anticipating combat or entering enclosed areas. This preserves durability and prevents unnecessary resource drain.
Confirmed Spawn Zones
Based on field observations, Comets have been found in the following areas:
· Dam area near the Dome Complex.
· Exterior of the Research and Admin building.
· Beneath the Power Generator complex (northern dam sector).
· Staff parking area on the Spaceport map.
· Ground floor of the Rocket Assembly building (often 2–3 units simultaneously).
· Near the Launch Towers.
The Rocket Assembly building and Launch Towers are particularly strong farming locations due to verticality. Ladders, ramps, and elevation changes allow effective kiting—forcing the Comet into predictable pathing while you maintain firing distance.
How to Secure the Comet Igniter
The Comet Igniter only drops if the Comet is destroyed before self-destruction. Like the Pop ARC, the Comet will initiate a detonation sequence if it closes into lethal proximity. If it explodes, the Igniter is lost. The kill must be clean.
Optimal Method (High Efficiency)
Wolf Pack deployable
· Throw near the Comet.
· Instant elimination.
· Loot the circular core wreckage (not the ring debris).
· 100% drop rate for the Comet Igniter when executed correctly.
This is the most reliable method.
Alternative Method (No Wolf Pack)
Showstopper grenade
· Toss to stun the Comet.
· Immediately focus fire during the stagger window.
· Maintain mid-range distance to prevent detonation trigger.
Kiting Strategy
Vertical kiting is critical:
· Use ladders to force climb pathing.
· Drop down ramps to reset distance.
· Funnel the Comet into narrow approach lanes.
· Maintain sustained mid-range DPS.
The Launch Towers are ideal because you can cycle elevation repeatedly. Never let the Comet close to detonation radius.
Firefly ARC Overview
The Firefly is an aerial ARC equipped with a short-range flamethrower. Unlike the Comet, it does not require Hurricane conditions and can be encountered in standard raids.
Common sightings:
· Bluegate map (green central zone).
· Near checkpoint areas.
· Flying alongside Hornets and Wasps.
Firefly Combat Tactics
Threat Profile
· Primary weapon: Close-range flamethrower.
· Extremely high armor melt rate.
· Rapid health damage if sustained contact.
If engaged at close range, your armor will be stripped almost instantly.
Defensive Response
1.Create distance immediately.
2.Move indoors or into enclosed geometry.
Firefly flame spread is most dangerous in open terrain. Indoors, you reduce its maneuvering freedom and line-of-sight exposure.
Kill Procedure
Mechanically, the Firefly functions like other flying ARCs:
· Target thrusters.
· Destroy one or two propulsion units.
· The ARC destabilizes and crashes.
· Finish it while grounded.
This makes it mechanically simpler than the Comet, provided you avoid flame proximity.
Firefly Loot Table
The Firefly drops:
· Firefly Burner (recyclable-only component; not usable as equipment).
· ARC Alloy (chance-based).
· ARC Power Cell (chance-based).
The Burner currently serves only as a material resource. Prioritize salvage extraction rather than combat prolongation.
Efficiency Recommendations
· Run Hurricane maps specifically when farming Comet Igniters.
· Carry at least one burst-disable tool (Wolf Pack preferred).
· Memorize vertical kite locations.
· Strip armor when rotating outdoors in Hurricane.
· Fight Fireflies indoors whenever possible.
· Focus thrusters—never center mass.
The Comet is mechanically more punishing due to its self-destruct fail condition, whereas the Firefly is lethal but predictable. Mastering distance management and terrain exploitation turns both into controlled encounters rather than chaotic fights.
Executed properly, these engagements become repeatable farm loops rather than high-risk gambles.
