Elden Ring's Hidden Rune Buff: The Erdtree Leaf Storm Explained

What You Thought Was a Glitch Is a Rare Golden Weather Event

If you've ever noticed a Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot rune buff icon pop up in Elden Ring-without having used one-you might have stumbled upon one of the game's rarest and least-known dynamic events: the Erdtree Leaf Storm.

What Is the Erdtree Leaf Storm?

This is a rare weather event that happens only at night and only in select outdoor areas. During the storm, golden leaves appear to fall from the sky, reminiscent of Erdtree blessings. While visually stunning, it's more than just ambiance: this storm grants you a temporary 30% bonus to rune acquisition, identical to the Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot.

You'll know the buff is active when:

·You see golden flecks or leaves falling from the sky.

·A Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot icon (gold on a diamond background) appears under your status bar.

·You haven't consumed any Elden Ring Items that should give you a rune boost.

How Long Does It Last?

Roughly 3-5 minutes, just like the Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot. It's a limited window, so the best strategy is to quickly eliminate enemies in the area to maximize rune gain.

Important Notes About the Rune Buff

·The Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot buff from the weather does not stack with the actual consumable or the Golden Horn Tender from Shadow of the Erdtree.

·It does stack with the Gold Scarab Talisman, so wear it if you want to squeeze out the maximum rune yield.

The icon differs from other buffs:

·Diamond background = Temporary consumable/weather rune buff

·Square background = Passive Gold Scarab Talisman rune buff

Multiplayer Group Buff Variant

This buff can also trigger in multiplayer when you use a group password:

·If anyone in the group defeats a Shardbearer or becomes Elden Lord, everyone in that group (sharing the password) will receive a temporary rune acquisition buff.

·This is separate from the weather event, but shares a similar icon and effect.

If you're part of an active multiplayer group, especially a large one, it's possible to have this rune buff up fairly often, even passively.

Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot - How to Get More

You can craft them once you get Missionary's Cookbook [2] from Patches, requiring:

·3x Rowa Fruit

·1x Four-Toed Fowl Foot

·1x Gold Firefly

Alternatively, you can buy Elden Ring Items or find several throughout the game.

Summary: How to Boost Runes Efficiently

If you're hunting runes or farming for levels, here's your optimal setup:

·Equip Gold Scarab Talisman

·Use Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot or Golden Horn Tender

·Look out for Erdtree Leaf Storms at night

·Join a shared multiplayer password group to get communal rune buffs

Whether you stumbled upon it by accident or tracked it down intentionally, the Erdtree storm is one of those rare Elden Ring moments that reminds you just how layered and mysterious the Lands Between truly are.
